A popular block, so this 1960s Arthur Rubenstein brutal townhouse in London SE3 should find favour.
I have featured it before. You might recall the renovation project here from 2019 and a fully-renovated example here from a couple of years earlier (which was actually two units combined). This one is more in the renovated ballpark.
The one is, as you can see, part of a development of townhouses/maisonettes that date back to the 1960s and, unusually, are very much in the brutalist style from the outside. And right now, that’s a huge selling point. Concrete sells.
There’s another selling point too, which is the location of this Arthur Rubenstein-designed block. Those large windows overlook the heath, offering ‘panoramic’ views, and if you want more green space, this is moments from Greenwich Park. Vanbrugh Park offers easy access to Blackheath Village, the Royal Standard and Greenwich and, as such, sits in a great spot.
Another reason to buy? I have one. The space on offer here. Hard to judge from an initial glance at the photos, but this one has 1,200 sq. ft. of living space over three floors. So quite a substantial place to live.
These tend to come up in various conditions, as you probably noticed from the earlier links. This one has been updated, but nothing too radical.
Of course, there’s no updating the exterior and all that wonderful glazing. The calling card for this particular set of townhouses. But interiors do vary, as you would expect.
Generally, this is as it was, with some modern-era additions. So the open space that these are known for, the wonderful wooden flooring still in place, some wooden ceilings still present, and possibly some original storage.
The kitchen and bathroom look recent, plus some other fittings, but that’s about it. The townhouse is well maintained but could probably benefit from further updates to bring it back to its best. Decoration, finishes, and so on. Plenty of potential to make it your own.
As for the layout, the ground floor has a WC, a utility room and a garden room which has direct access to the ‘well-kept communal gardens’.
On the second floor is that impressive reception room facing west with an open kitchen making it a great entertaining space. The kitchen has been updated, but these houses always had a kitchen integrated like this.
The third floor has what’s described as ‘an exceptionally large’ master bedroom with an en-suite shower room tucked within the wardrobe. Beyond that are two double bedrooms and a family bathroom.
As I mentioned, communal gardens to both the front and rear of the houses, plus the heath just on your doorstep. Note that there is a service charge for maintaining both the block and the gardens; details of that are on the agent’s site.
