Wicker Man island: Tanera Mor for sale in the Inner Hebrides, Scotland
It wasn’t the location for the film, but the Wicker Man movie was said to have been inspired by this particular location. You can re-enact it daily if you invest in the island of Tanera Mor in the Inner Hebrides, Scotland.
It has been on the market for a while, but of late, the island has been on the receiving end of a hefty price cut, It still isn’t cheap. But it is a lot cheaper than it was.
For your money, you get an 800 acre island, the largest of the ‘Summer Isles’ in Scotland and one that is uninhabited after the last occupants (the current owners) moved out. That’s a big contrast to the early 20th century, when the island was home to a three-figure population.
These days it is really a place for holidaying, with a harbour welcoming visitors who rent out self-catering holiday lets, with access to a post office, cafe and sailing school.
But if you want to be lord of the manor, there is a ‘principal’ house here with wonderful views (which are to be expected), a ‘portfolio’ of cottages to let, a private post office which can issue ‘Summer Isles’ stamps by permission of the Royal Mail, lots of watersports opportunities and a ‘potential for expansion’ if you want to get creative with the possibilities here.
It is also self-sufficient in terms of water and power too.
We can imagine a Wicker Man experience here, with you as Lord Summerisle. Indeed, it sounds like some of the houses already have names inspired by the cult movie, so not a big step up there. You will just need someone to make you a Wicker Man at least once a year.
If you want to to take that on – or any other idea based around the island – you can buy it in three separate lots. Contact the agent for details of that, but if you want the whole island, that’s available for £1,950,000, which includes pretty much everything on it.
