On the market: 1950s modernist property in Ham, Richmond, Surrey
Thanks to Melissa for pointing us in the direction of this 1950s modernist property in Ham, Richmond, Surrey and apologies for being so vague about its background.
After quite some hunting around I’ve given up on the architect for this place. It is listed in a number of places, but none of the resources offers up the name of the architect or its specific date of construction. So once again, apologies to those of you who love that kind of detail.
Saying that, we have it from the agent that the house dates from the 1950s, with the added information that the house has been in the same family since construction. From that we can also presume that this is a first time on the market.
It has that look of a well maintained property through single ownership too. Not quite a ‘time capsule’, but you suspect very little has changed in this place, with the possibly exception of some decoration, updated bathrooms and (although we can’t see it) perhaps an updated kitchen too. The integrity of the design is (thankfully) maintained.
There is much to admire here too. Over 2,000 sq. ft. of accommodation for a start, as well as plenty of original features, from the wood cladding outside, the stone and brick inside, the wood panelling on the ceilings, the large windows and of course, that amazing swimming pool, which you’ll find at the rear of the garden.
The agent points to the house ‘requiring updating’, but we would suggest it’s more of a case of freshening up and keeping what is already well preserved.
As for the layout, that’s described as being ‘two distinct living areas’ with a hallway that links the two passing through a ‘secluded’ courtyard. Five bedrooms can be found to the front of the property with a family bathroom, a further shower room and a separate WC.
To the rear of the house is a kitchen / breakfast room, a dining room with garden views and a ‘bright and spacious’ double aspect reception room with sliding doors leading out to the garden. Off the reception room is a study with separate darkroom or storage area. Ideal for a photography enthusiast.
That garden covers around 150 ft. in total and as we said, features that amazing swimming pool complex.
£1,750,000 is the guide price.
