On the market: 1970s architect-designed three-bedroom house in Staincross, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire

This is one of the cheapest houses we have ever featured. But this 1970s architect-designed three-bedroom house in Staincross, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire is still an interesting prospect.

The agent dates it to the 1970s, referring to the house as a ‘very unusual architect designed property’. Not sure about that, but it’s certainly a distinctive build and faithful to the original design, although some modernisation has taken place.

More needed too, that’s for sure. But it looks like the house really just requires some new decor. Both the kitchen and bathroom look recent, which hints that major works have already been dealt with. Sure a surveyor will put you right on that one though.

Once inside, you’ll find that this is a two-level property, with the most obvious feature being the 29ft ‘sitting room’ with extensive glazing. There’s also three double bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and a separate downstairs WC.

Outside, you’ll find a small lawned area to the front with tarmac drive and access to the garage. To the rear is a long garden, perhaps bigger than you would imagine. Offers around £160,000 will secure it. Apologies for the quality of the photos, these are the best we could find.
