1960s townhouse in Southsea, Hampshire
A renovation project with bags of potential, this 1960s townhouse in Southsea, Hampshire, is up for sale.
I don’t know much about the background, but I suspect there isn’t much to dig into here. This is a fairly typical modern townhouse from the mid-20th century, but one with more character than most that you might see.
Fairly uniform from the outside and updated in places, it retains its appeal because of the features still present inside. Despite some updating, the focal points of this design remain – and could form the basis of a very cool midcentury modern pad.
It’s a good size, and with vacant possession, you get to see the full scope of that space, too. But you also get to see the interior, which is quite something.
The full-height glazing and the timber cladding on the ceiling. The exposed brick wall and the period staircase too are details you usually struggle to find in houses of this price bracket.
As I said, there are plenty of more contemporary updates, but there is nothing to worry about for anyone looking at this as a full renovation project. Kitchens and bathrooms come and go; a plain white finish elsewhere isn’t an issue. It just needs a considered eye to bring it back to its best. A mix of original details and something retro/modern elsewhere, and this would look a treat.
Located ‘within a stone’s throw’ of Southsea seafront, the house has something like 1,500 sq. ft. of living space over three floors in total and an integral carport.
That layout is made up of a reception hall, a study/fourth bedroom and shower room on the ground floor, a first floor of a spacious living room with a balcony, a separate dining area and a kitchen, plus a top floor of three bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Driveway parking for several cars (as well as the car port) plus a paved area at the rear.
I really like this because of the potential it offers. If you do too, the asking price is £375,000.
