1960s modern townhouse in West Molesey, Surrey
An amazing time capsule and potential project, this 1960s modern townhouse in West Molesey, Surrey, is up for sale.
It’s fair to say that the house hasn’t been touched for quite some years. In fact, according to the agent, this house hasn’t been up for sale since it was constructed back in 1965. Someone has loved this house and kept pretty much everything they fell in love with almost 60 years ago.
To some, it might be a daunting renovation job, but not me. This house, in its original condition, absolutely screams potential. I know the audience here, and I know someone will be keen to take this one.
After all, what’s not to like? This kind of modern townhouse has aged well and is always popular. Add in some original details and even the original decor, and this has the basis of a very special modern house with a retro touch. I would hate to think of it all being ripped out.
This is an original Wates townhouse from 1965 and pretty much still offers everything that was picked out by the owners all of those years ago. A very rare and unusual thing for a house in the 21st century.
As I said, much of it has no doubt been loved, and I really can see why. These are details buyers still love.
The original parquet flooring, for example, as well as the original kitchen units, the distinctive staircase, the light fittings, and even the fireplace. But there is more.
The original ‘Wates’ decoration is still in place. You’ll have to view the house to see how that works close up. But from the imagery, it still looks pretty amazing and would be incredibly hard to replicate, regardless of how many retro wallpapers are available to buy today. Sometimes the reproductions don’t quite get it right.
There’s also the original bathroom too. Again, I’m not sure how that translates to 21st-century living, but (like everything in here), there must be elements you can save.
It’s also in a great spot. And end terrace that is close to the River Thames towpath leading to Hampton Court and with views across the Hurst Park development. The agent also mentions a potential to extend (subject to the right permissions). See the listing for details on that.
As for the layout (as it stands), the property is made up of an entrance hallway with storage cupboards and parquet flooring, a downstairs cloakroom and a utility room with a door leading to the rear garden.
A front reception dining room with sliding patio doors opens up to a south-facing patio garden. There is also a kitchen/breakfast room on the ground floor with original eye/base level units/cupboards.
Stairs from the hallway lead up to a landing, in turn accessing the fourth bedroom, which is a double room with a built-in wardrobe and original vanity sink.
The landing also leads to a large living room with views over Hurst Park. Stairs from the living room lead to a further landing with access to three bedrooms, two of which have built-in wardrobes and original decoration, and a bathroom with a matching suite.
Of course, that only tells half of the story. It’s the imagery that really sell this one. Take it in, then beat a path to the agent’s office before someone beats you to it. This one will sell quickly.
Oh yes, outside space too, which is made up of a ‘mature’ rear garden with many plants and shrubs and a rear access gate. To the front, there is a garden with a pathway leading to the front door.
If the idea of this appeals, the asking price is £575,000.
