Thanks to Alan for flagging up this bold architectural statement, which dates back to 1986, the work of architects David Richmond Associates and a house that with a ‘Geodesic Dome’ structure.
According to the agent, ‘The Dome’ received a high level of acclaim from the architectural world, national press and television when it was built a few decades back and we can see that. Even today, this is a house that makes you stop and look.
Architecturally, we don’t think much has changed with this one since being built. After all, what could you do with it? Well, you could alter and update the finish inside. That’s what has happened here. A glance around and a look at the kitchen and the Ikea light fittings tell us that. As ever, it’s down to personal taste. If you don’t like it, rework it.
As for the space, this one sits in around half an acre and is accessed via security double gates, with a parking area and double garage (currently used as a studio) outside.
Enter the main house and from the hallway you’ll find an open plan interior with atrium ceiling and plenty of natural light from the triangular roof windows. That living space is also overlooked by a minstrel’s gallery on the first floor.
