1980s modernism: Edward Greenway-designed modernist property in Hampstead, London NW3
Thanks to Connor for pointing out that this 1980s Edward Greenway-designed modernist property in Hampstead, London NW3 is now on the market.
Quite an interesting recent past too. The house can be found near the remains of the historic and grade II-listed Hampstead parish jail and might well have been demolished a couple of years back.
However, the new house seems to have been abandoned in favour of a renovation of the existing property by Greenway Architects, which is what you see today. Judging by the images, it was the right move. This really is modernist heaven.
We didn’t see the original 1980s version of this place, so hard to compare and contrast. But we love what we see here. The wood and exposed brick finish is always going to appeal, as well as the walls of glazing.
But the real star of the show here is that stunning, cathedral-like space in the centre of the home. That’s the ‘wow’ factor.
That split level space covers 44ft x 25ft and is made up of a number of different living areas, including the kitchen, dining room, sunken lounge and upper reception area, all of which overlooked by a 44ft gallery area.
Yes, space isn’t in short supply here. You get around 5,663 sq. ft. in total.
Off the main reception area is a long corridor with five bedrooms and three bathrooms, with the corridor ‘illuminated’ by an inner courtyard garden.
The house is surrounded by two / three garden areas and terraces as well as a detached staff / art studio. If that’s not enough, you also get a light filled conservatory and a four car garage ‘hidden away from the road’.
You have probably guessed that this doesn’t come cheap and you would be right in thinking that. The guide price is £9,500,000.
