We haven’t had something approaching a time capsule for a long time, so it is great to see this 1960s James Reginald Parr-designed modernist property in Broughty Ferry, near Dundee, Scotland hitting the market.

It really is something special too. Sat in 0.4 acres of grounds and in a sought after part of town, the house was the work of James Reginald Parr back in 1964 for his own use. The house has changed hands since, but thankfully, subsequent owners have respected the original design and its period features. Which is why this place looks like it could be off the pages of a design magazine from the mid-1960s.

Of course, the exterior looks unchanged through the decades, but it’s the interior that really sells this place for us. The agent mentions the afromosia window and door frames, as well as the Danish door handles. hinges and window fittings as examples of the originality.

But beyond that, we can see the full-height glazing, wood panel ceilings, exposed brick and wood walls, an original fireplace, a distictive open staircase, fitted storage and a wonderful 1960s kitchen. If you want a house with an authentic 1960s vibe, this place should be on your list for a viewing.

Of course, as you might have guessed, the house isn’t short of living space either.

Access is via a gated / shared drive, which leads to a private courtyard, garage and an arch canopy, which in turn leads to covered vestibule. Once inside you will find a reception hall with picture window, feature brick wall and an open plan stairway leading to both the upper and lower levels.

The upper level has a formal lounge with windows overlooking the garden, as well as open views of the River Tay, Fife coastline and Tayport Lighthouse. Off the lounge is a ‘snug area’ with raised fireplace and copper canopy, built-in cocktail bar, book shelving and finished teak wall panelling.

Also on this level is the master bedroom with original built-in wardrobes, light fittings, bed and desk / dressing table, along with an en-suite, as well as a further double bedroom with shower room.

On the lower level is a dining room, which can be partitioned courtesy of a large sliding door and a sitting room / family room with sliding doors to the garden. You will also find that period kitchen here, plus a utility room and a modern shower room, the latter an upgrade from 2012.

Two further bedrooms on this floor too, a double plus a single bedroom currently used as an office.

We have already (briefly) mentioned the outside space, but to elaborate, the 0.4 acres is mainly lawn, with sections of pond, sitting areas, a small fruit orchard and more mature trees to create some privacy.
