Thanks to Jean-Yves for letting us know about the amazing 1960s Jacques Couelle-designed property in Mouans-Sartoux, south-east France, which is now on the market.

A house or a work of art? I’m not sure. But this sculptural property really does have impact both inside and out. It’s one of five ‘landscape’ houses produced by the architect, this one dating back to 1962 and a heritage property in France.

The design is all about organic shapes, a house designed to fit in with nature and its natural surroundings, intended as a contrast to the angular modernism that was popular in the day.

The house can be found in a private and secure area above Cannes, offering amazing views to match the architecture.

Once inside, you’ll find 231 sq. metres of living space and a variety of finishes, including stone, terracotta for floors, ceramics iron and glass for the walls, wood and glass for the doors plus copper for the detailing. It’s a melting pot that really shouldn’t work, but the end result shows it does. As long as you are on the hunt for something just a little bit different and if you are reading this site, I am guessing that’s the case.

As for the layout, that’s mainly on a single level, with a living room dominated by a central and rounded fireplace, as well as a mural sculpture by Constantine Andreou that hides two doors – one leading to the kitchen and the cellar, the other being a suite with bathroom and a ‘sunny room’ with harlequin colours on the floor.

A curved staircase also leads to two bedrooms, an office and two bathrooms, while a basement hosts a garage, a cellar and a wine cellar.

The outside space has various terraces and open spaces, along with a pool surrounded by a terrace , which in turn offers views of Cannes in the distance.

If this is your kind of place – and it certainly happens to be mine – the asking price is currently €1,950,000.
