On the market: 1960s Michael Twigg-designed Medlars modernist property in East Grinstead, West Sussex
Two designs in one if you like, but this started life as the 1960s Michael Twigg-designed Medlars modernist property in East Grinstead, West Sussex.
The house was built by architect Michael Twigg in the early 1960s for his own occupation, but in 2009, the current owners appointed architect Rodger Fincham to extend the property with floorspace that complemented the original design of the house.
You can probably see the ‘join’, not least with the finishes inside the respective halves. But the new design isn’t miles away from the old look, not least because the older house was also updated in the process. You’ll probably need a viewing to see how well it all flows together.
But thankfully we still have the feature staircase, the full height windows and the cantilevered dining room and master bedroom, the latter with a wonderful feature fireplace.
Of course the rework means more space, which now includes three large reception rooms, five bedrooms, five bathrooms and outside, a triple garage and a swimming pool. Extensive gardens outside too.
The images really tell the story of this place far more than words (although there are plenty more on the listing if you want that). The guide price, should you like the place, is £1,900,000.

Wonder if the person who decorated / furnished the house had ever been there prior ?
