On the market: Art deco-style property in Tavistock, Devon

A little bit confused about the heritage of this place, but we will run with the art deco-style property in Tavistock, Devon because we quite like the end result.

The confusion is because we don’t know much about its heritage or indeed, if it has one at all. The agent says it was ‘comprehensively renovated and completed in 2013’, which hints at an older building. Whether that was a house or some other kind of building isn’t clear. It probably isn’t important, as the house you see is the one for sale.

It is pretty much a new build. If there was something older here in the past, there isn’t much sign of it now. Except perhaps the overall shape of the house.

What you do have is a house with three floors of accommodation and all the modern detailing you would expect. So Porcelanosa bathroom fittings and floor tiling, LED lighting, foot lighting in the hallway, an Intoto modern fitted kitchen with built in appliances and granite work surfaces, power coated aluminium double glazing…you get the idea.

The layout isn’t quite what you might expect either. The reception hall leads you to the second bedroom, dressing room and an en-suite shower room on the ground floor. Head upstairs and past a cloakroom and you’ll get to the main living area, consisting of a kitchen / dining room, the master bedroom with en-suite and a living room which leads out to a ‘roof garden’ with artificial grass and lighting.

Dropping right down you’ll also find an integrated garage with light, power an an automated door.

Purists of the style will want something old and with more period features. But if you just like the look and want something to go with your very modern life, this place is available for £330,000.
