An interesting retro project for someone, this 1960s modern house in Maidstone, Kent, is now on the market.

I like this one for various reasons. First, the architecture is quite interesting in a mid-20th-century sort of way. Also, very little has been updated over the decades, which is always an interesting thing.

But also because you can see this as a manageable project. Of course, a viewing and survey will be needed to get the full picture here. But at first glance, you get the idea that it is a well-maintained house with a fairly straightforward design.

The right finishes, the right decor and furniture, and of course, maintaining the original details where possible should make this a very cool living space. If you are looking in this area, it looks worthy of a viewing.

As it stands, this chain-free house looks fairly sparse. That gives you an idea of space and what you are working with, and it also highlights some of the key details of the house.

I like the ‘raised’ aspect of this one, with the main living space opening too a terrace via glazed doors, creating a car out below ahead of the main entrance.

Once inside, there are some nice touches, including the wood-clad wall, that amazing and oh-so-retro kitchen, the downstairs sun room, the open-tread staircase, and what looks like an original bathroom.

Yes, in places it looks rather like a blank canvas. But that’s no bad thing. It’s all such a great starting point in creating your own eye-catching house design. If you love 1960s architecture, it is worth considering.

Known as Los Zancos, this is described as a ‘unique detached contemporary style property’ directly overlooking Mote Park, a local beauty spot with a lake. The house was built approximately 65 years ago.

As for the layout, as I mentioned earlier, this has the ‘upside-down’ layout that tended to be popular at the time. With a local beauty spot in the distance, it probably makes sense, too.

The ground floor consists of a hallway, a downstairs WC, and a utility room. The large garden room (or sun room) is to the rear, and a large double garage is to the front, accessible via the carport ahead.

Love the staircase, which takes you to the main accommodation here. The living room is the focal point, a large space with glazed doors accessing the equally sizeable balcony area.

A hallway beyond that runs across the rest of the accommodation. The kitchen, of course, is very much ‘of an era’, but hopefully, it will be salvageable for use in the 21st century in some way.

The family bathroom is equally retro and perhaps less useful in the modern era. The bedrooms are here, too—three of them, with a further one currently used as a study.

There is a good amount of outside space, too. The drive and the previously-mentioned carport to the front, along with a substantial green area to the rear, a mix of plants, trees, and lawn that you can admire from the garden room.

If you can see this as your next project, the price is £550,000.
