Yes, this was the home of the man behind The Avengers, The New Avengers, The Professionals, and so many other TV classics of the mid-20th century and beyond. He was also behind a number of movies at the time, particularly horror movies – including one of my all-time favourites, And Soon The Darkness.

He lived in Whitehall Court, a fascinating building in its own right. Built in the 1880s and designed by Thomas Archer and A. Green, it was a mix of luxury apartments on one side and the National Liberal Club on the other. It was also used as the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) headquarters until the end of the First World War.

Numerous famous names have lived here, everyone from William Gladstone and Lord Kitchener to George Bernard Shaw, as well as the Countess of Shrewsbury, known for her ‘glamorous soirées during the 1930s’. Most recently, Brian Clemens was one of its best-known residents, and he left his mark on the building.

Brian Clemens lived in the 2,759 sq. ft. triplex penthouse that you see here, one that offers the history of the building, some panoramic views, and a rather grand interior. Much of which is down to its former owner.

It does look like some kind of retro film set. The agent describes it as the ‘ultimate Bond-style apartment’, and it does have that vibe about it. Old meets new on a rather grand scale.

The height, the beams, the spiral staircase, the original wood panelling, and, of course, the terrace that looks out across the city. This is high-end real estate – which obviously comes with a price to match. More on that in a moment.

If you are in the market for a statement penthouse apartment, this one certainly has much to appeal. Those sweeping vistas of the London skyline, taking in landmarks like the River Thames and St. James’s Park from the comfort of your home for a start.

Or sit inside and enjoy the main reception with 23-foot ceilings, original wooden paneling. And those beams. I love those beams.

There are three reception rooms in total, as well as the kitchen, an office, and even a wine cellar. This is what you would expect from the man behind Steed’s character. There are also two large bedrooms, as well as three bathrooms.

Luxurious living in one of the more prominent parts of the capital. This is the kind of place that will never be within reach for most of us. But if you have had a windfall or happen to have a healthy wage coming in each month, do have a look. It is on the market for £3,950,000.
