Looking to step back into the past? Have a look at this 1970s time capsule apartment in Ayr, southwest Scotland, which is just up for sale.
This is a particularly large penthouse apartment and as such, is likely to catch the eye regardless if you are looking for something in the area. Having all that outside space doesn’t do it any harm either.
But the outstanding feature of this one is the relatively unchanged decor within. Actually, that’s probably an understatement. This is packed with bold 1970s statement design.
Of course, not everyone loves the 1970s, but a lot of people do. Some of you might know that I also write the Retro To Go blog and my round-up of the best 1970s-style wallpapers is one of the most popular features on it. The 1970s are back and as a result, this apartment will have its fans.
The flooring in the hallway (and extending into the dining room and living room) is a dream, the kitchen a statement of the era and the bathrooms are as bright as you would hope and expect.
It is toned down a little elsewhere, but there’s no reason why you can’t turn it up again. There are plenty of 1970s designs out there to buy new and secondhand if you want to create your own 1970s bolthole. Have a look at Estelle Bilson’s 1970s house in Manchester if you want some inspiration on that front.
I hope someone does that. Original decorative features like this are few and far between these days, so it would be lovely to think that someone was going to keep them and work their interior around them. It might be a forlorn hope, but I’m sure it’s a possibility.
Saying that, this isn’t just a statement of the 1970s, it’s also a spacious penthouse apartment too, offering over 800 sq. ft. of private terrace space as well as a good amount of interior space. All close to the town centre, beach and seafront.
A lift takes you directly to the front door. Once inside you will find a reception hallway, a large kitchen diner, a formal dining room, a sitting room and a 23ft formal lounge with sliding patio doors to two external roof terraces. Great for a party.
There’s also three double-sized bedrooms and a family bathroom. The master bedroom has an en-suite and all the bedrooms have built-in wardrobes. If you need more storage space, there’s also a garage too.
If you fancy a trip back to the 1970s as well as your own penthouse, this one is on the market right now at offers in excess of £300,000.
