Interesting from the outside, just amazing inside. This 1950s midcentury modern house in Boucherville, Quebec, Canada is up for sale.
I’m not knocking the exterior and the architecture. Far from it. The house is a lovely midcentury modern design with a lovely, extended sloping roof that takes in the garage, a brick and wood frontage and plenty of glazing.
But I think it is fair to say that the interior seals the deal. I don’t think this is completely original. It’s motor a case of someone taking the midcentury modern theme and running with it.
Actually, not just a case of running with it, someone has positively sprinted with it. This is an unashamed tribute to the era and one that offers more the further you get into it.
Dating back to 1959, the agent describes this as a ‘harmonious marriage of texture and materials’. Indeed, the finishes are a key selling point of this particular house.
The textured, almost honeycomb ceilings, the exposed stone, exposed brick. the wood and the space-age feature walls provide the backdrop for this amazing house. But the touches within, not least the fixtures and fittings, are also worth a mention and seal the deal.
Some pretty impressive rooms too, not least the amazing sunroom with a glass ceiling, retro tiling, bridge and planting all around. But also the space-age kitchen, the open living/dining space and all of that basement space.
Yes, the basement. Often the place for hiding the clutter, the one here is pretty much a different house within a house. Well, ok, not quite a house, but someone has created a large retro leader area that seems to run the full length of the house.
Head down the stairs and check out the retro seating area with midcentury fireplace, what looks like a bar with a built-in fish tank and your own pool room. That’s a dream space to hang out right there.
If you don’t want to stay in or spend time in the main house, you can always go outside. There’s plenty to see and do out there too. A large paved area accessed by sliding doors would be great for a party and beyond that, a good-sized swimming pool too if the weather is on your side. A garden on the other side of the house as well.
That’s about all I have to say really. The pictures tell the tale on this one, which is a design statement and a statement of a bygone era.
Well, I will add that this house has a total of 12 rooms within, as well as a large garage and a 12,000 sq. ft. plot. Four bedrooms in total, as well as a couple of bathrooms. The images show plenty of reception space too, including that feature sunroom.
Fancy this one? If you do, the house is up for $699,000. That works out as something like £406,000.
