1930s art deco renovation project in Caldy, Wirral, Merseyside
A lack of internal shots with this one, but this 1930s art deco renovation project in Caldy, Wirral, Merseyside hints at having potential.
You will find it in what’s described as the ‘highly sought after’ area of Caldy, on the outskirts of West Kirby and sat in a large plot. You get around an acre of land with this one, so peace and seclusion likely to be a selling point too. Development opportunities you would think too, but I have no idea of the status there. One to look into with the local council if you want to extend or use the additional space.
But the plot and the location are only part of the story. I am interested in the house, which seems to be a fairly untouched piece of art deco architecture. At least, structurally.
Caldy was apparently a farming area until the start of the 20th century, before being rebuilt as a model estate by the appropriately named Caldy Manor Estates Company in 1905. The result was imposing detached Arts and Crafts style houses (many of which are still around) and later, this particular property, with its art deco influence.
As I said earlier, it is a little frustrating that we don’t get to see any internal shots of this one, but that might actually be a positive. If that makes sense. Let me explain.
According to the agent, the house is ‘in need of renovation’ and as such, might well have some of those highly sought after period features still in place. That is just a guess though. It could be some kind of 1980s hell inside or just something that hasn’t dated well since the 1980s. But without a viewing, it is hard to tell. If you are a potential buyer and in the area, do let me know if you view as I would love to know.
What it does have is a fairly untouched structure (with the likely exception of the windows), as well as a wonderful sunroom and roof terrace, both offering some stunning views over the gardens and beyond. Key selling points for sure.
It isn’t short of space either, as you might have gathered looking at the exterior photos. According to the listing, the property has a large reception hall, a ‘through’ living room, dining room, garden room, morning room, kitchen, shower room and WC.
Head upstairs to take in the first-floor landing and beyond that, four good sized bedrooms, one of which opens onto the roof terrace, along with the bathroom. Access to the sunroom is from the landing which in turn opens onto that amazing and very large roof terrace.
As I mentioned, around one acre of land with this one, with the gardens including an orchard, vegetable garden and large formal lawned areas.
You also get a detached timber pool room with an ‘endless pool’, along with a sauna and shower plus an in and out driveway, garage and outhouse with utility room, boiler/drying room and WC.
So a lot of house, which may or may not need work inside. Make up your own mind with a viewing as long as you have something like £800,000 to spare. Yes, that’s the asking price if you want to move into this part of the Wirral.
