A well presented and preserved house, the Taipola 1970s modernist property in Chislehurst, Kent is now looking for its next owner.
It is also a credit to its current owner, who has really done this one justice in terms of renovation and preservation, updating where necessary whilst keeping it very much as a modernist design of the 1970s.
The house dates back to 1975, designed by architects Anthony Goddard and Donald Manton and according to the agent, built to ‘exacting standards’ back in the day.

As I mentioned, the house has been completely refurbished and presumably in the recent past, but at the same time the key original features have been preserved (and rightly so).
So the likes of the exposed brickwork, the vaulted timber ceilings, the walls of glazing, the staircase and of course, the drama of the design itself.
That isn’t obviously evident from the outside. That’s quite austere from some angles and the overall darkness of the finish and the surrounding trees perhaps don’t help its appeal at first glance. But go inside and you will experience the ‘wow’ factor of this one.
The open spaces, the exposed brick, the clean finishes, the double height space, the balcony, the brick fireplace and the successful mix of modern and period design. It really is quite stunning and there is so much to take in.
Plenty of space too, as you have probably worked out. Enter into the hall with utilities on the left, a guest WC, and double doors taking you into the main living / reception space.
Within the ‘double-height void’ and beneath a quartet of roof lights is the dining room, and behind the chimney stack of an open fire is the reception room with glazed doors accessing the rear garden.
The kitchen sits at the front of the house and looks out over the front section of garden through some large aluminium-framed windows. There are also two bedrooms on the ground floor, along with a shower room and sauna, all of which access the garden.
The open tread timber staircase takes you to the upper level which is arranged around the ‘central void’. Up there is a master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and what’s described as a ‘versatile gallery reception’ that overlooks the sitting room.
