1950s-style Leopold garden seating at Habitat
If you see more than a hint of a design classic here, you are not alone. The Leopold garden seating at Habitat definitely channels a midcentury icon.
That icon is the Bertoia seating range, which is generally thought of as ‘wire’ seating. But in actually fact, the 1950s classics by Harry Bertoia for Knoll got their distinctive looks courtesy of welded steel rods.
All of which is something of a sidetrack really, as these are not Harry Bertoia designs from the mid-20th century. These are high street chairs that take inspiration from the much-loved seating.
Habitat goes as far as saying these are ‘influenced by modernist designs’ and if you like the idea of something midcentury in the garden, they are worth checking out.
Take your pick from the sofa or chair, both in the dark finish and made of a ‘durable, powder-coated metal’ which should withstand the elements outside if you take care of it.
There is a Bertoia outdoor range, which is incredibly stylish but certainly not cheap. This range is definitely more affordable, coming in at £125 for the chair and £195 for the sofa / bench. However, note that Habitat looks to be out of stock of it just now, so either check with any local outlet or keep an eye on the site if you want it.
