Over at the Retro To Go site there’s a top 10 retro design pieces at Ikea article and within it, the newly-arrived Vaxjo ceiling lights, which are rather lovely things.
Is it modern or is it retro? Well, in my eyes it can pass for both. Obviously if you stick up a light in the colour above on your ceiling, it’s always going to have a retro quality. But there’s more to it than just the bright shade.
In fact, you don’t even need to go that bright, with as more subdued version also available along with a light blue, which sit somewhere between toe other two on the spectrum.
But what they all have in common are those curves, which hint at design from the late 1960s, possibly into the 1970s, which is probably where the retro tag comes from. Great over a table and you suspect quite strong on a row too, should you want something over a longer table or bar.
But the biggest selling point here is the price. This is Ikea and with the odd exception, things are always going to be on the affordable site. This isn’t one of those exceptions with a price of just £25.
