1920s art deco property in Goring-by-Sea, West Sussex
Thanks to both Nicholas and Claire for flagging up this 1920s art deco property in Goring-by-Sea, West Sussex.
In fact, this is Claire’s house, which is always nice as the owner often has a few extra facts to throw in.
We now know that the house dates back to 1928 and was a ‘seaside retreat’ for the wealthy London family that commissioned it. Claire bought it from the family back in the 1990s. Of course, as a seaside getaway this is very close to the beach and if you like boats, it’s also close to the Worthing Sailing Club.
The distinctive curves are still there, but the house is quite minimal right now and as such, perhaps needs some ‘deco’ putting back into the interior. Perhaps just a change of decoration and some furnishings if you want this place to reflect its original era. Perhaps redo the windows? But that would be seriously costly.
If you want more space to work with, planning permission has previously been granted for an additional storey and large double garage to the front of the property, which has now lapsed. But you could try again or simply enjoy this modestly-sized house for what it is and always was.
Space is described as ‘versatile’ and includes an entrance Hall, feature curved lounge, formal dining room and a kitchen / breakfast room, along with three ‘good size’ bedrooms and a modern family bathroom. Plenty of off-road parking too on the oversized double width drive and an enclosed south facing rear garden.
£550,000 is the asking price of this one.
