Time capsule for sale: 1960s three-bedroom property in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire
Something affordable and full of character. This 1960s three-bedroom property in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
According to the agent, this was built to an individual design back in the 1960s and according to the eyes, little has changed in the 50 or so years since.
Well, obviously some things have changed, with a slight update here and there in terms of the fixtures and fittings. But overall, this is a house with its original character intact.
The agent adds that the house offers ‘scope to further extend and develop’ and is ‘priced to reflect modernisation’. If we’re honest, we wouldn’t be surprised if the new owner went down one or both routes. But at the same time, we hope someone sees the beauty of the original features here and works around them.
The picture windows, the angled ceiling with wood panels, the period staircase and gallery, even the fireplace has its appeal. We’re rather fond of that kitchen hatch and the retro kitchen space too. Surely we aren’t the only ones to appreciate them all?
Of course, some updates are required. The bathroom and the bedrooms are top of the list, with a little work on the kitchen and a change of decor too. But otherwise, we would happily move into this one and take in those wonderful views each morning.
As for the living space, you get an open plan lounge / dining room divided by a feature stone chimney breast and open fire place, with ‘panoramic’ views from the picture windows. That room is open to a kitchen with dual aspect windows. A bathroom and WC finish off the ground floor layout.
An open tread wooden staircase with wrought iron spindles and wooden hand rail lead to the first floor. There is a built-in double store cupboard up there, along with a galleried landing and three bedrooms offering more of those wonderful views.
Off-road parking for two cars outside, as well as access to the integral garage. The gardens are a mix of lawn and plants, bordering onto what looks like open countryside.
£280,000 is the asking price and an open day is coming up this weekend.
