Contemporary modernism: Four-bedroom property in Abbots Leigh, near Bristol
Something modern for a change. This four-bedroom modernist property in Abbots Leigh, near Bristol.
We like it, but with just one minor reservation. More on that in a moment. But for now, let’s look at the many plus points.
The first is the architecture itself, which was constructed back in 2002 and hasn’t really aged in the 15 years since. Perhaps that’s because the frame of this place takes inspiration from the modern movement of the 1920s and 1930s, which, for us, is pretty timeless.
We love the bold, white exterior, as well as the pillars and the heavily glazed living space below.
Once inside, the entrance hall opens up to that open plan breakfast kitchen/dining area and the sitting room is beyond with its wood burning stove. Sliding full length double glazed doors open to the gardens and a heated swimming lane which has an independent gas fired boiler and filtration system situated in the pool room. Yes, your own heated pool lane. That should be a rather lovely way to relax or ease into the day.
An open plan staircase leads to the first floor, which has an open plan drawing room with wood burning stove and views across the garden. Also on that floor is a study landing with electric operated skylight windows, the master bedroom with en-suite shower room and separate dressing room, three further bedrooms, one with en suite shower room and finally the separate family bathroom.
All the fixtures and fittings are as high end as you would expect of a place like this and overall, it all looks in impressive condition. That reservation? Well, I’d just like more of that full height glazing, but perhaps in terms of privacy, that’s not for everyone when it comes to the upper floor.
Gardens of course, along with a double garage and a sought after village location. All of which means this is never going to come cheap. Offers in excess of £1,450,000 if this is for you.
