Airbnb find: 1960s Iwann Iwanoff-designed modernist property in Dianella, Western Australia, Australia
Not a lot of background about this 1960s Iwann Iwanoff-designed modernist property in Dianella, Western Australia, Australia, but the images might tempt you into renting it.
This is an Airbnb find, which means you can rent it for the night or as long as your budget permits. If you are on the hunt for somewhere in the Perth area of Australia for a break or to meet up with family, this could be ideal if you want something with a modernist slant.
Iwann Iwanoff was apparently Perth’s most renowned modernist architect of the 1960s and 1970s, with this listed house looking like it has been kept pretty faithful to his original design.
The angular property certainly has the look of the era as you approach from the street, with what looks like an original piece of artwork just outside the front door. There’s more of that once inside too.
But it’s not all about the art. Far from it. This is a dream for a place for a break and especially a party, with an outdoor seating area and pool ideal for the warmer months, whole full height glazing, balconies and a covered terrace help to bring the outside vibe in.
Of course, you could head inside and take in the luxurious reception space, again with a strong sense of originality about it. Lot of quirky features here too which aren’t really explained in the listing. I’m fascinated to know just why those rocks are in place behind the arches. It’s such a random thing to have!
The house isn’t all original, obviously. The kitchen looks pretty much brand new and you suspect the rest of the house has been renovated and updated. But working with the period features, which is always key. Overall, the past outweighs the present.
When you need to get your head down, there are two bedrooms to choose from, each with a bathroom. You also get internet connectivity, cable TV, free parking onsite, should you need any of those things.
The images tell the full story, so do check the listing to see all of those. If you want to hire it, the house obviously doesn’t come cheap. It seems to work out at around £286 per night.
