1980s modernism: Geoffrey Carter and Chu-designed property in Chislehurst, Kent
This has more than a passing resemblance to a house we featured in the same area back in 2011. I suspect this Geoffrey Carter and Chu-designed modernist property in Chislehurst, Kent is one of the same group.
The agent does mention that the house dates back to the same year (1982), so it is moire likely than not, especially as some design featured are common across both.
What you get here is a distinctive piece of 1980s modernism that looks to have been softened down a little over the years. The architecture remains pretty much unchanged, but it looks like the interior has just been made a little less austere since the original build.
The ‘turret’ staircase is still in place, as are the double height ceilings, the gallery and the exposed brick, all what you would expect to be here. But a mix of furnishings and a subdued choice of colours look to have softened up the rough edges of the original design.
Essentially it’s a matter of taste and if you don’t like the finish, you can always install something more to yours over time.
As for the layout, the hallways leads to the lounge area and its wall of glass, not to mention high ceiling. The room is overlooked by the galleried landing and is divided by a central fireplace.
Beyond that is a large kitchen/breakfast room, also with a wall of glass to one side and with access to the patio area and garden, Finishing off the ground floor is a formal dining room, three bedrooms a utility room and a bathroom.
Head up to the first floor and you will find a sitting room, along with the master suite, which is made up of a large bedroom with vaulted ceiling and ensuite bathroom with a separate shower and a walk in wardrobe.
A second floor has a gallery / study overlooking the sitting room plus two further bedrooms and a shower room.
Outside is a sloping driveway leading to the double garage, along a courtyard to the front of the property and the garden with brick paved patio and lawns to the rear.
More images on the agent’s site and an asking price of £1,650,000.

Funnily enough I went to see this house yesterday. The other one you linked to from 2011 is next door, sharing a driveway with this one. It’s recently had a lot of work done and the outside has been completely recladded with sort of vertical wood beams. You can just see it in the back left of the driveway photo, and the right hand side of the back garden photo.
