So a double whammy. But first off, let’s focus on the building itself. That dated back to 1935, a grade II* listed building that was described by non other than Walter Gropius as ‘an oasis of glass in a desert of brick’.

That’s pretty much the case today, although its use has obviously changed as the decades have passed. This was actually a purpose-built health centre back in the day, one built for the ‘Peckham Experiment’, which was a study into the nature of health, essentially observing families in a community setting and monitoring their health through lifestyle factors.

But that experiment is over and more recently, the building was converted into apartments.

This apartment is a split-level affair on the ground floor. Enter and you will access a lobby leading to an ‘expansive’ living / kitchen / dining area, with all of that wonderful glazing taking up one side of the room. A dream of a space.

Heads up a spiral staircase (which you will love or hate) and you will find the two bedrooms (with more lovely glazing), one with an en-suite bathroom, along with a family bathroom. But that’s not quite all.

At the bedroom level is a door leading ‘almost directly’ to the first floor swimming pool (which is quite something) and communal gym. So no excuse to be lazy. In fact, there is also a communal tennis court at the front of the building. The gated grounds also have parking for residents.
