Not the first time we have featured the architect. Indeed, we have even featured the book on his work. If you are a fan too, do check out this 1950s William Krisel-designed midcentury modern property in Palm Springs, California, USA.
It dates from 1958 and pretty much sums up midcentury modern living. No doubt it was a place for a party for original owner Chick Iverson, who was apparently ‘the first Volkswagen and Porsche Dealer in Orange County’ and a close friend of John Wayne. Yes, ‘the Duke’ probably hung out here back in the day.
Has it changed since then? Hard to tell. We can’t imagine the architecture changing too much since. The ‘zig zag’ roof, the stone exterior, the heavily glazed and open plan living space, the beams, the fireplace and the entertaining area at the rear are almost certainly features of the original house. But changes have been made – and fairly recently.
According to the agent, renovations have been undertaken by HK3 and as a result, the house now benefits from a terrazzo tile floor, a retractable television in the living room, Wolf, Asko, and Subzero appliances, a climate controlled wine room, a butler’s pantry, a ‘sparkling’ pool, and updated and ‘ultra private’ backyard with numerous palms and exotic fruit trees.
All of which has been done without taking away too much of the original 1950s charm, especially when some MCM interior design pieces are thrown in for good measure.
As for space, that covers around 3,441 sq. ft, in total, with five bedrooms and four bathrooms in total, as well as that lovely open reception space. All of which looks out and opens out onto the pool and entertaining area.
It doesn’t come cheap at $2,590,000, but if you have the money, this certainly is living the dream.
