In need of renovation: Former aircraft control tower and land in Winkleigh, Devon
We haven’t got much to go on here, but if you are planning a Grand Designs project, this former aircraft control tower and land in Winkleigh, Devon might be a starting point. Big thanks to Tamer for pointing it out.
Not that planning permission is in place right now for turning this into a house. But the agent points out that ‘commercial development or others’ could be possibility subject to obtaining some kind of permission. Maybe something to research first.
As for the tower, that’s a former RAF watch tower that was part of a night fighter station during the Second World War. it is also listed by English Heritage as a Scheduled Monument, which might impact on development ideas.
The building is a two storey construction and is sold with land extending to 3.88 hectares (9.5 acres) along with a further range of disused outbuildings and shelters.
The price? The guide is £35,000 – £50,000. That sounds like quite a good deal if you can get the permission to do something with it.
