On the market: Space One 1960s modernist property in Clapton in Gordano, North Somerset
The agent describes this as ’60s architecture at its best’, but annoyingly we just can’t see enough of the Space One 1960s modernist property in Clapton in Gordano, North Somerset to agree or disagree.
Big thanks to Mark for pointing this place out and if we were a little nearer geographically, we would have jumped in the car or possibly booked a viewing of this fascinating building.
Fascinating because it looks like a mix of the traditional and the modern. The former in terms of the traditional rock finishes, but latter because of the bold modernist architecture itself.
We can only see that exterior on one shot, with a couple of interior shots suggesting a house barely changed in the last 50 years. The agent adds that the house has ‘an impressive cantilever living room’, as well as large picture windows and timber cladding. But you probably need a viewing to appreciate just what is here.
Certainly a good amount of space. A hallway leads to three bedrooms and a family bathroom on the entrance level. A feature open treed staircase leads to the first floor, which is where you will find the central living room, the kitchen / breakfast room, a utility room, a snug with wood burning stove and what’s described as the principal bedroom and a second bathroom.
Space outside too. The plot covers in excess of an acre, with access from the first floor to the gardens and from its elevated position, panoramic views across the countryside, Portishead, the Severn Estuary and the Welsh coast. Further out, the lans offers lawned areas, a detached workshop and ‘space for a swimming pool’. That could mean one was here is the past, we’re not sure. Finishing things off is a ‘substantial’ garage / workshop and a carport.
Half a tale, I know. But one that is worth flagging up to anyone in the area. If you think it is worth considering, the guide price is £400,000.
