Back on the market: Villa St Ronans 1930s modernist property in Torquay, Devon
This was actually up for sale early in 2013. Either it didn’t sell or it is back up for sale already. Either way, the Villa St Ronans 1930s modernist property in Torquay, Devon is available to buy once more.
It doesn’t look to have changed much either, which is a good thing as this place really did charm us a couple of years back. Dating back to the 1930s, this modern movement property still has all the charm of the era from the outside, but has obviously undergone some updating on the inside.
It’s the kind of update we really don’t mind seeing. The general look and feel are still in keeping with the original era and some detailing has been protected.
Generally though, you are looking at a place that has been on the receiving end of a good amount of investment – clean, contemporary, but certainly understated finishes are definitely the order of the day here.
If that’s not enough, check out the views. The house sits in an elevated position and as such, gives you a prime position to look down on the town and take in the coastal scenery beyond. A wonderful sight to greet you each and every morning.
Talking of position, the house is in an area called Warberries, which is a conservation area made up of detached villas, described as having ‘the ambience of the French Rivera’ if that’s what you are looking for.
So a good position, what about the space inside the house? Well there are three levels to play with, all separated by half landings. First up is the lower ground floor and its open plan sitting room, dining room and kitchen/breakfast rooms, all with access to the terrace. There is also a utility room on this level and what is described as a ‘possible study’, currently being used as a store room. Access to the garage too.
On the next floor up, there are three double bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, plus a family bathroom. On the first floor there is another bedroom with an ensuite WC.
Right at the top of the house is the master bedroom, which has bifold doors out onto a wonderful balcony that wraps around the rear and side of the bedroom. So those views as soon as you get out of bed. There is also an en-suite for this room too.
Outside is a walled garden at the rear of the property, a terrace, which is accessed from the sitting room, a lawned area with summer house built at the same time as Villa St Ronans and an area ‘for a possible vegetable garden or greenhouse’ at the very bottom of the garden. A garage too, as we mentioned.
A lovely property and on the market right now with a guide price of £795,000.
