On the market: 1960s midcentury property in St George’s Hill, Weybridge, Surrey
We really wish we had more internal shots of this place. But we haven’t, perhaps because this 1960s midcentury property in Weybridge, Surrey has more value from its plot.
Indeed, the agent describes it as a ‘rare development opportunity’ based on its position ‘one of the most sought-after private estates in England’. The architecture really is secondary.
Why so valuable? Well, the St George’s Hill location is a private, gated estate set in around 900 acres and featuring a private championship golf course and a separate private tennis and squash club. It also has a 20 metre indoor swimming pool, a well-equipped gym and a restaurant and bar. It’s an exclusive location, without doubt.
On offer here is a ‘substantial plot’ overlooking St George’s Hill golf course, with the house itself, dating from the 1960s designed to take advantage of that position, with ‘far reaching, breathtaking views’ of Guildford, the Hog’s Back, Windsor Castle and beyond.
It sits along a long, private driveway and in terms of living space has a ‘good size’ master bedroom suite, two further bedrooms and bathrooms, three reception rooms and kitchen.
Outside is a double garage and outdoor swimming pool, as well as 1.37 acres of landscaped gardens.
As I said, there is a lack of internal shots, but what we can see suggests a house very much of the era and possibly untouched over the decades, with extensive glazing and some stylish period fittings.
Despite that, we would guess someone sees more value in the development possibilities, with the asking price of £5,500,000 reflecting that.
