On the market: 1970s Scandinavian-style property in Westhorpe, Stowmarket, Suffolk
This is an interesting place, although we don’t know a great deal about the heritage of this rather unusual 1970s Scandinavian-style property in Westhorpe, Stowmarket, Suffolk.
Thanks to Mem Morrison, who flagged up this place, we do know one thing, It was the last home of Jean Kent, a movie actress of some note in the 1940s and ’50s (look her up if you don’t know her), who we would guess lived here from its build in the 1970s until late last year. Actually, we’re guessing the construction era of the 1970s too, but the interior does point to that or at the latest, the early 1980s.
Talking of that interior, it’s relatively untouched, with its pine cladding and exposed brick throughout, not to mention fixtures and fittings from some decades back. The agent points to ‘comprehensive updating’ required. We think someone could run with this having done a lot less work.
As for the space, there’s a hall that showcases that pine and brickwork, leading to a sitting room that is part vaulted and a snug (also part vaulted) that is open to the living room. Also on this floor is the first bedroom with an en-suite, the original kitchen, a utility room, a shower room and a dining room. On the higher level is a galleried landing, leading to three more bedrooms and a bathroom.
Outside you’ll find a large plot and secluded driveway, along with a garage that’s a miniature version of the house and what looks like some kind of summer house too.
If you fancy it, the asking price is £364,950.
