Big thanks to Matthew Burgess for flagging this up. It’s a house we featured some time ago, but it now looks like this 1960s grade II-listed Vista Point property by Patrick Gwynne in Angmering, West Sussex is back on the market.
We don’t know the ins and outs of that. We just know that we featured this place back in early 2012 and fell for it big time. We don’t know if it sold and is up again or withdrawn. We simply know it is back up for sale.
As we mentioned previously, this place was designed in the late 1960s and completed in 1970 for Gwynne’s quantity surveyor, Ken Monk, who obviously appreciated the coastal location and the surrounding views.
This modernist gem still offers the views, as well as the design as first envisaged. The past/current owner has worked with it, maintaining all the key features, as well as adding a ‘retro’ theme for the decor in keeping with the original era. In short, it’s a stunner. And that’s before we get to the central wood-panelled spiral staircase with glass-domed roof and the outside pool.
All the main rooms face south over the gardens and towards the sea (clever design there), with a ground floor offering an entrance porch, entrance hall, master bedroom with en-suite, four further bedrooms and two additional bathrooms. Head up to the first floor and you’ll find that wonderful sitting room, plus a dining room, kitchen/breakfast area and south-facing balcony.
Outside space, as you probably noticed, includes a heated swimming pool, a pool complex with large studio room, kitchenette, changing room / shower / cloakroom and pool boiler room. There’s also a double garage out there, plus a single garage, driveway and 0.65 acres of garden.
It is ‘price on application’, but if it helps, the last time it was for sale, it was marketed at £995,000.
