On the market: Kenwood Mansion on the St George’s Hill Estate, Weybridge, Surrey – the former home of John Lennon
This is celebrity ‘wow’ rather than architecturally ‘wow’, but with John Lennon‘s former home on the market, we had to mention Kenwood Mansion on the St George’s Hill Estate, Weybridge, Surrey.
According to the BBC, Lennon lived in the 1920s house from the mid to late 1960s, penning a number of songs from the Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album whilst living here. The house also features in home movies that formed part of the 1988 documentary Imagine: John Lennon. But if you are a fan of the man or the band, you probably already know that.
Lennon connection aside, this is still likely to be a desirable property die to the location (‘one of the UK’s premier private residential addresses’) and the space it offers, even if the house itself isn’t the most interesting we’ve ever featured on these pages.
The house sits on a plateau position set around St George’s Hill’s golf course, tennis club and leisure amenities, overlooking landscaped gardens and with views of the Surrey Hills. Also in those 1.5 acres of grounds, you’ll find an indoor swimming pool complex with heated pool, shower and changing facilities along with a sauna. That gives you an idea about the kind of place we’re talking about here.
Mixing original features with modern-day luxury, Kenwood offers up accommodation including an entrance hall, reception hall, sitting room, drawing room, dining room, morning room, kitchen/breakfast room, a billiards/family room, library, cinema, wine cellar and barbecue area.
There’s also a master bedroom suite with sitting area and luxurious bathroom, along with five further bedroom suites, each with its own bathroom. In addition, you’ll find a detached coach house incorporating double garage, office and self-contained staff apartment above.
So a lot of house. Of course, it also means a lot of money. How much? Well, if you want to live out your Lennon obsession, you will need to find somewhere around £15,000,000. Yes, it’s Euromillions time again. Many more images on the agent’s site.
