When it comes to period homes, we love to see plenty of the ‘period’. Sadly, despite the wonderful exterior, this five bedroom 1930s art deco property in Poole, Dorset offers the complete opposite.

Not that it’s a bad thing for all – a lot of people will like the idea of a quirky exterior mixing it with contemporary fittings. But for us, we just think there’s something lacking in the character department from this recent renovation.

But if it loses something from that, it certainly offers as clean, high-end finish within, which means you can just walk in, park your furniture and belongings and live here. As long as you have the asking price, obviously. It also has location on its side, in an elevated position that offers views across Poole Harbour and the Purbeck Hills.

As for the house itself, well, you can’t fail to be impressed with the period frontage. Once through the door, you’ll find an entrance hall with walnut flooring and cloakroom, along with a lounge with access to the garden and decking (via French doors), along with an archway leading to the kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is packed with all the latest gadgets and a top end finish, while the dining room has walnut flooring, access to the garden again and a crystal chandelier.

Head upstairs to the first floor and you’ll find a bedroom with built-in wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom, three further well-equipped bedrooms and a family bathroom. The second floor offers up the master bedroom suite (views, floor to ceiling glass windows and doors etc), a walk-in wardrobe, en-suite bathroom  and a large roof terrace with feature glass balustrade and panoramic views across Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island and the Purbeck Hills.

Head outside and you’ll find the terraced and landscaped rear garden, a large timber cabin/summerhouse, a front area for car parking and a garage, which is currently used as a utility room.

So plenty of space and a high end finish, unquestionably. Just a shame that we don’t see more of the original era inside. If you like a mix of old and new, the asking price is £799,950.
