Before and after: Apartments in the newly-renovated 1930s art deco Manor Road Garage in East Preston, West Sussex
Remember some time back, we mentioned that the grade II-listed 1930s art deco Manor Road Garage in East Preston, West Sussex was being turned into apartments? Well, those apartments are now available for sale.
No longer an artist’s impression, we have finished shots of the development. In fact, a couple of those apartments are on the market. Have the others sold? Or are these being sold on by buyers who picked them up ‘off plan’? It’s hard to say.
All we do know is that plot 8 and plot 1 are up got grabs, giving an insight into what you get for your money. That includes a view of that stunning period facade each day, complete with the vintage petrol pumps, which light up at night and look absolutely stunning. That’s the good bit, alongside the communal gardens and private parking.
On the downside, the internal shots of both of the two-bedroom apartments on offer don’t really match up with the art deco exterior. It was never going to be a vintage makeover, but we did hope for a little more character. Saying that, you can choose your finishes for some of the rooms, so you can add your own spin if you want. Just think of it as a blank canvas.
In terms of layout, the more expensive plot 8, on the ground floor, offers a south-facing place with terrace, along with a lounge/diner, a ‘shaped’ kitchen, a separate cloakroom, two bedrooms and an en-suite bathroom and en-suite shower room. Plot 1 is also south facing and with a terrace, also with the same living room/diner, two bedrooms and two en-suites. It possibly comes down to more space for your cash.
Talking of cash, the asking price is £349,950 for plot 8, with plot 1 yours for around £310,000.

I think that they’ve done a wonderful job and I can understand why they went for a contemporary interior finish rather than pure deco – it’ll probably appeal to a wider buying group.
The night lit petrol pumps are inspired!
