On the market: The White House 1930s art deco house in Birchington, Kent

I’ll be honest, this is as much a case of ‘how not to not do it’ than ‘wow’, but I think you could still do great things with The White House, a 1930s art deco house in Birchington, Kent.

Located in what’s described as ‘the desirable Minnis Bay’, the house has the original art deco exterior, but has been modernised significantly. No surprise there, but a look at the front door and windows and you suspect something more in keeping could have been done. Inside is similar – that bannister probably replaced something much more interesting.

But it is largely architecturally as it was, so if you want to filter the period back in, you can. But in the meantime, you’ll have a modern kitchen and bathroom, plus plenty of space, to keep you happy.

In terms of accommodation, we’re talking a hallway leading to a television room, study, W.C., lounge and dining room. The latter two have doors leading outside. You’ll also find that fitted kitchen and a utility area downstairs.

Upstairs the master bedroom has its own seating area leading on to a balcony and an en-suite. Three other bedrooms are here too, two of those with both a balcony and en-suite. There’s also a bathroom with separate walk-in shower, plus a door leading out to an external staircase which accesses the roof terrace. Outside there is a garden with seating areas, a tandem garage and a second garden area.
£435,000 is the asking price.
