On the market: Deodar – a Frank Lloyd Wright design in Trip Garth, Linton, Wetherby, Yorkshire
Tell you what really annoys me – when estate agents market houses for ‘knocking down’. Not least, when it’s as interesting as Deodar in Trip Garth, Linton, Wetherby, Yorkshire.
The agent details the property, but doesn’t actually bother to show the interior, which we suspect is very interesting, not to mention open plan and sizeable. Oh yes, did we mention that it was constructed to an exclusive award winning Frank Lloyd Wright design? Well it was. All the more reason not to knock it down. Sadly, there’s no details of when it was built, just doesn’t seem important to the agent. We’re guessing 1950s, but it could be a ’60s build.
Sat in one and a half acres, it has a covered entrance porch, split level reception hall, cloakroom, open plan drawing room, sitting room and dining room, breakfast kitchen, utility room, study and large master bedroom with dressing area and a shower room and sauna on the ground floor.
On the lower ground, it has a games room, two further double bedrooms and a house bathroom, a self contained apartment with sitting/dining room, breakfast kitchen and two bedrooms and bathroom. Outside, you’ll find a spacious forecourt, integral three car garage, an outdoor pool and adjoining open countryside on the edge of the village.
The agents suggests the existing dwelling could be demolished and replaced with a new individually designed residence of some 10,000 sq ft or replaced with two detached dwellings on the existing footprint, subject to obtaining the necessary planning approval. Although to be fair, they do casually mention that there is ‘the opportunity to refurbish’ if you prefer.
Anyway, large house, large plot, sought-after location. Never going to be cheap. Offers are invited around the £1,300,000 mark.
