No, this isn’t an original 1930s modernist property But this modernist property in Torquay, Devon is certainly going for that look and feel, as well as being a fine example of coastal modernism.

It actually dates from 2013, constructed with white rendered block walls with a highly energy efficient timber frame core and a Samafil roof. It also has eco-friendly tech installed, such as MVHR (mechanical ventilation heat recovery system) underfloor heating throughout and solar panels to generate income and reduce electric bills. Always a good thing.

The house definitely has that early modernist vibe going for it, with its angular construction, contrasting windows, flat roof and terrace, but with a modern spin on things.

There is also a rather appealing location too. The agent describes it as being in one of the ‘most desirable locations in Torquay’, one with wonderful views across Tor Bay and with a house design to take full advantage of them.

In terms of the house, that is approached via a drive and walkway to the front door which opens into a ‘spacious’ reception hallway. Stairs lead to the ‘observatory’ and down to the ground floor below.

On the entry level you will find a large lounge, a contemporary fitted kitchen and dining area, a study (or bedroom five if you prefer) and a shower room/WC.

That top floor observatory I mentioned has access to the large sun terrace, which is where you can enjoy the best of those coastal views across Tor Bay, from Meadfoot beach to the open sea beyond, along with Berry Head and in the other direction over woodland across to Lyme bay.

On the ground floor is the master suite which has dual aspect views plus an en-suite bathroom and two further double bedrooms, one with its own private courtyard and the other with more of those woodland views. Both bedrooms share a en-suite bathroom. Also on this level is access to the double garage.

On the garden level there are two further double bedrooms, one currently used as a gym and the other, with bi-fold doors access to the garden, is now the sitting room. There is also a bathroom with utility cupboard here.

Outside there is ‘ample driveway parking’ plus an integral double garage, a level garden mainly laid to lawn and a private enclosed walled courtyard tav the front.

I think that just about covers it. More images on the agent’s site and if you like it, the asking price is £1,150,000.
