We thought this one had sold, but thanks to Sean for letting us know that the 1930s Blenkinsopp and Scratchard-designed art deco property in Castleford, Yorkshire is back on the market.
It has been featured on these pages in the past, as some of you might recall. First off, it hit the market in 2012 and later made our all-time most popular art deco property listing. Then at the start of this year, it went up for sale once more.
After that, it disappeared, presumably sold. But it seems like it has just changed agents and is now back for sale looking pretty much the same and for the same asking price.
It’s a large art deco property and one that was originally a doctor’s surgery as well as a house for its first owner, Dr Innes Pragnell. It continued to operate as both into the 1950s.
Since then it has been used solely as a dwelling and thankfully, subsequent owners have looked after many of its notable period features. The outside screams the era, with the inside of this place a mix of the old and the new. But with the old certainly holding its own.
That includes the internal doors, the parquet flooring, the wonderful hallway, door handles, clock, lighting and that amazing bathroom plus, of course, the roof terrace and balcony space.
Elsewhere, things have been updated for the modern era, not least when we look at the kitchen, bedrooms and living room. If you want more period living with modern convenience, this is for you. But it could take more of the era if you wanted to give other rooms a makeover via some modern-day reproduction or reclamation / vintage items.
As we said, lots of space here, with double doors leading to the entrance hallway and ground floor WC, moving on to the inner hallway with fireplace and lounge, which in turn takes you to the kitchen diner. A side entrance hallway accesses a boiler room, a study (or extra bedroom if you need it) and the ground floor bathroom.
Upstairs is the landing with parquet flooring, accessing four bedrooms (two with parquet flooring, one with a dressing room), a WC, the bathroom and a level up, the sun room, also with parquet flooring. That sun room also takes you to the roof terrace. Always a popular feature.
Outside is the garden, a block driveway with electric sliding gates and further space in the side garden.
There are so many more images on the listing, so do check those out if you have time. As for price, that remains unchanged at £350,000.
