This possibly looks familar because we featured it when it first hit the market last year. It didn’t sell, which might be good news as the Oliver Hill-designed The Round House art deco property in Frinton-on-Sea, Essex is now available at a reduced price.
Nothing seems to have changed in the meantime, This grade II-listed build benefits from having a superb location on the seafront. But the main selling point, (as hinted at in the name), is an entirely circular property with 1,923 sq. ft. of space over its two floors. There is a circular garden too.
The agent points out that the house has been ‘dearly loved and looked after’ with a new kitchen and bathroom added in the fairly recent past. But it might be time for a renovation / makeover and with a lower price, there might be something left in your budget to do just that.
The original curved Crittall windows are in need of some work and others have been replaced by modern-day double glazing. With Crittall still in business today, you could turn back the clock for an upgrade.
On the flipside, some stylish period detailing is still here. The circular shape is the obvious one, along wuth a map of the 1930s estate on the floor of the house, created using coloured mosaic tiles and used as an information resource when the house was the office for the estate. It survives in ‘largely original condition’ and is a real talking point for any visitors.
With living space, that includes a large entrance hall on the ground floor when you walk in, which leads to a curved dining room at the front overlooking the sea. At the rear of this floor is a reception room (once used as a bedroom), a separate kitchen, a bathroom, a study and a utility room.
An S-shaped staircase takes you to to the first floor with three bedrooms, a shower room with a double-sized cubicle plus a sitting room across the front of the house, which brings with it some nice coastal views.
Outside are the gardens, mainly laid out as lawn, plus a garage.
The previous asking price was £700,000, but now cheaper offers are beng considered now around the £650,000 mark.
