With the weather so dreadful outside, why not dream about somewhere better? IN fact, you can actually book in somewhere better if this 1950s William Krisel-Designed midcentury modern property in Palm Springs, California, USA appeals.
It has all the makings of a dream getaway, not least if you love Californian modernism from the mid-20th century. Like many similar houses in the area, this place was designed by Krisel and built by the Alexander Construction Company. Like the other surviving builds, it is affectionally known as an ‘Alexander’ today.
In terms of the general look and feel, this one looks pretty well preserved too. The current owners have out their own stamp on the place, but the updates work with the original design rather than against it.
The open plan living space, the beams and the outside / inside lifestyle is still here. But mixed with what’s described as an ‘earthy modern’ finish inspired by Charles and Ray Eames California residence, and a Scandinavian-inspired palate of pale neutrals and wood textures.
Of course, some modern-day comforts too, including an infrared gas grill for a poolside BBQ, a 46-inch LCD TV, HD satellite and free Wi-Fi.
As for space, there is that open reception / dining and cooking area, as well as three bedrooms with memory foam mattresses and Marimekko bedding. The master has its own bathroom too, while the remaining two share a main bathroom.
Of course there is the outside area too for lounging and, if the mood takes you, swimming. If you do plan on using the pool, that can be heated for your prior to your arrival. Nice.
Many more images on the listing if you want to dig deeper. Fig it appeals, this Alexander is available to rent for £170 per night.
