The house dates back to 1966, one of nine similar houses designed by the architect, all of which take inspiration from midcentury designs emanating from the US in the middle of the 20th century. Penn himself actually worked in that area, notably with Richard Neutra for a time.

The current owners have strived to bring the house into the 21st century, preserving many of the original features and general shape (extensive glazing, wood panels, open layout and so on), but without the feeling that you are walking into a ‘museum’. This is a midcentury house that’s also perfect for the modern family in 2014.

The house sits in around 0.4 acres of land (previously an orchard, with some fruit trees remaining) and the accommodation covers around 160 sq. metres, including three double bedrooms (the master also has an en-suite), a living room with full width windows overlooking the outside space, a dining room, kitchen and two large bathrooms. You also get a ‘garage block’, which is joined to the house by a covered walkway and has a large utility and storage area plus parking for two cars.
