Amazingly, this place started out as a set of derelict farm buildings back in the 1980s. It is now on the market as an altogether more modernist proposition, specifically as Dayre House in Bath, Somerset.

The change is down to its ownership, with the buildings taken on by an (unnamed) architect back in the mid-1980s and converted into cool and stylish living space. That has appeal, along with the location, which is adjoining National Trust land just outside the city. The end result is all about light and space, with open living areas and huge slabs of glazing, along with clever detailing such as the open staircase with glass balustrade and a galleried first floor platform.

As for space, the grind floor has an ‘open plan hall’, kitchen and dining area, alongside a large, sunken living room with  glass doors on two sides. Also on this floor is a study, three bedrooms (one with an en-suite shower room), a family bathroom and a utility room. Head up to the first floor and you’ll find a master suite with dressing area and en-suite bathroom and one more bedroom further bedroom, also with an en-suite shower room.

If that’s not enough, there is also attached self-contained accommodation, with an open plan kitchen / living area and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor above. Outside space includes a double garage, gardens and a stone wall to one side, with protected open fields on the other.

If you want it, the house is on the market for £1,750,000.
