I think this is the most expensive house we have featured on WowHaus, yet amazingly, The Whitehouse, which is a D E Harrington-designed 1930s modernist property in Mill Hill, London NW7, has actually been reduced quite considerably.

I suspect that price is down to both location and land, although it looks like a lot of money has been spent on renovating this 1934 build too. A house which is said to be in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as being inspired by both the modernist and art deco movements.

Talking of land, this house sits in two acres of its own space, which is gated off for extra privacy. Those grounds have apparently been ‘maintained to an exacting standard’, with ‘an array of flowering plants, mature trees, secluded walks, discrete patios, a ‘Zen’ treehouse and a Carp pond. There is garaging for three cars and off street parking’. Your very own little place in the country. But located in the city.

As for the house within, that looks faithful to the original design in terms of exterior, with some original features (like the wooden floors I suspect) surviving the renovation too. But above all, this is a modern home inside, with a fairly blank look and inoffensive finish.

You get around 5, 530 sq ft of accommodation over two floors, with the focus being the 36′ reception room with a double storey ceiling and five sets of full height french doors that open out on to a terrace with wide steps leading down to the outside swimming pool.

There’s also a large entrance hall, dining room, study, kitchen/breakfast room, a utility, wine store and guest WC. You’ll also find the principal bedroom with en-suite and dressing room, four further double bedrooms with en-suites and a gymnasium.

All of that was originally on the market (according to Zoopla) for £6,750,000, but has now been discounted to £5,950,000. So not exactly affordable, but it is, as ever, nice to dream.
