The house itself, known as West Hill, must certainly have an attraction, as it has just gone on the market for the first time in 50 years. To be honest, that does show from the images and it certainly needs a bit of work to bring back its period splendour. From the details and the images, we’re only talking cosmetic improvements though, rather than a complete builder’s renovation. The exterior looks pretty much perfect, windows aside.

Location seems to be a selling point here too. The Duchy area of Harrogate is apparently renowned for its ‘distinctive individual homes’ with West Hill the only art deco property in the area. It’s also a private area, should you want some exclusive space.

As for the house itself, well you certainly get plenty of space for your money. According to the agent’s breakdown, the property offers an entrance porch, reception hall, cloak/WC, sitting room, dining room, breakfast room, kitchen and ‘butler’s pantry’ on the ground floor. Head upstairs and you’ll find a central landing space, along with a master bedroom with two dressing rooms (one a potential en-suite), three further bedrooms, a shower room, a bathroom and separate WC. This being a deco home, you’ll not be surprised to find a second floor tower room, with access to ‘extensive’ roof terracing.

So some work to be done, but you suspect financially, it’s likely to be worth the effort. The one downside, as ever, is the amount of money needed to secure the house in the first place. Offers in excess of £950,000 should you want to make an offer.
