Holmbury St Mary is described as a ‘delightful unspoilt village standing high in the Surrey Hills’, about eight miles out of Guildford and as such, not a bad route into London.

As for the house, that was built in 1933, very much a high end art deco build. Although not all of it is original – you’ve probably noticed the extended ground floor, which was completed in the 1960s and renovated recently. In fact, there looks to be a lot of modernisation in this place.

That’s both good and bad. The new part of the building is certainly stylish, although perhaps not in keeping with the rest of the build. The exterior overall is very much unspoilt, with rendered walls, a flat roof and three balconies, but inside, from the images we can see, there’s not a great deal of character left. Saying that, the lack of images does leave a lot of the house as an unknown quantity, so why knows? If you have the money, you could always do a view to find out.

If you do get inside, you’ll find that 23 ft x 22 ft kitchen/dining room addition looking out over the gardens, as well as a large central reception hall with original staircase and balustrade (ah, original features!) leading to the galleried landing. There’s also four reception rooms on the ground floor and six bedrooms and two newly fitted bathrooms on the first floor. Further recent improvements have included the installation of replacement double glazed windows, redecoration of the exterior, the installation of electrically operated gates and ‘dog-proof fencing’ to the perimeter of the grounds.

Outside, you’ll find a double garage, single garage, two gardens sheds, a swimming pool in need of repair plus about three acres of gardens. All that space and the sought-after location means that high price. How high? You’ll need to find £1,725,000.
